Dubai launches Bastakiya revival project

Dubai has launched a project to revive Al Bastakiya district, one of the most historic landmarks in the emirate. President of Dubai Event Management Corporation (DEMC) Sheikh Ahmed Bin Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum on Saturday announced that the Corporation had been mandated to revive the district under the directive of the Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and the Ruler of Dubai His Highness Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum. A documentary featuring the UAE history was screened here last night at the Emirates Palace. Premised on the archaeological discoveries spanning back to 150,000 years, the film chronologically depicts the development of the UAE society from time immemorial to the present day. Pact to document oral history of UAE signed

The Zayed University (ZU) and the Centre for Documentation and Research (CDR) have inked an agreement to document the oral history of the UAE. A tartan first designed almost 30 years ago for a Pipe band in the United Arab Emirates has been rediscovered and unveiled at a ceremony in Dundees Al-Maktoum Institute. Conference on Bedouin life in UAE next month

A conference to highlight Bedouin life in the UAE will be organised by the Centre for Documentation and Research (CDR) next month. Wilfred Thesiger's death mourned

The death of a great British explorer who became the inspiration of the young and the old alike in Arabia came as a shock for his friends in the UAE and Gulf region. Sir Wilfred Thesiger, who made the UAE his second home, and who made the world share and realise the difficult challenges of the Arab Bedouin desert life, passed away on Sunday, August 24.
