 Abu Dhabi’s Louvre to get Middle East art

The head of the Louvre in Paris has promised that the museum's Abu Dhabi branch will show exhibits from across the globe and not just focus on western art. "It will not be dedicated to occidental art but will show all kinds of artistic creations,” said Henri Loyrette, president and director of the Louvre.
"It will set up a dialogue between west and east, between north and south. As such, art from the Middle East will be shown within the Louvre Abu Dhabi.”

His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, today announced the launch of the region's first Museum of Middle East Modern Art. The Sharjah Museum of Islamic Civilisation has attracted 12,000 visitors in its first week.
The Museum displays artefacts and other items of Islamic art and civilisation dating as far back as the seventh century.
A particular favourite with the visitors is the stunning sitara in the Abu Bakr Gallery of Islamic Faith, the curtain that graces the door of the Holy Ka'aba in Makkah every year.

 Sharjah Ruler to open Sharjah Islamic Museum

H.H Dr Sheikh Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, UAE Supreme Council member and ruler of Sharjah will open the Sharjah Islamic Museum on Tuesday. The Islamic Artefacts Exhibition will also be open on the same day in cooperation with the Berlin Islamic Museum which will put some pieces on display for the first time outside Germany. Two exclusive museums of falcons and Islamic coins set to open in the next few weeks will be the final museum projects of the Architectural Heritage Department which will soon come under the Dubai Culture and Arts Authority (DCAA).
The 420-employees strong department, now under the Dubai Municipality (DM), will be transferred to DCAA by the end of this summer, a senior official said on Sunday.

 Rebuilt Dubai Police Museum opens doors

The Chief of Dubai Police inaugurated the new Police Museum at the general headquarters on Thursday, saying it is a testimony to the development of the police and a record of its achievements since the force was established in 1956.
Lieutenant General Dahi Khalfan Tamim said the Police Museum is one of the first museums in the country and had been open to visitors for 15 years.

 Dubai museum remains big draw with tourists

More than 3000 tourists drawn from various nationalities toured the landmark Dubai museum on the last day of 2007, according to Dubai Department of Tourism and Commerce Marketing -DTCM who operates the museum.
